The scenery here in Niagara is fantastic this time of year with its brilliant coloured trees of red, orange and gold. We’re fortunate to live in an area that puts such a high value on environmental conservation by preserving our greenspaces. Our McGarr Realty team rounded up a list of some of our favourite trails for you to take in the beauty of autumn while walking your faithful furry friend.
With over 90km of trails, St. Catharines is a great place to take your dog for a walk. We highly recommend visiting Burgoyne Woods, located in the neighbourhood of Old Glenridge. Burgoyne Woods is the largest park in the city and has a leash-free dog park and scenic hiking trails for your pup to explore. The paved pathway makes it a great accessible option for strollers and wheelchairs, too.
If your pup can’t get enough of the water then you’ll want to take a venture along the Waterfront Trail that stretches between St. Catharines and Niagara-on-the-Lake. Along with its beautiful views of Lake Ontario, the trail joins up with George Nicholson Trail that extends to the Port Weller lighthouse. The area is home to lots of wildlife so make sure to bring a pair of binoculars to take it all in!
We’d be remiss if we didn’t include the legendary Bruce Trail on our list! While the full trail spans 900km from Niagara to Tobermory, the portion in Niagara on-the-Lake makes for a perfect day trip for you and Fido. This southern section of the Bruce Trail is located in Queenston Heights Park and offers unmatched views of the Niagara Gorge. The trail continues through the Niagara Escarpment, an area that has been designated as a world biosphere by U.N.E.S.C.O. because of its conservation of biodiversity. How amazing is that?
