Located along the old Welland Canal and Twelve Mile Creek in St. Catharines, the neighbourhood of Old Glenridge is known for its charm and friendliness. Since its development in the early 1900s, Old Glenridge has become a desirable part of the city. Although much has changed around the area, the neighbourhood’s friendly, family-oriented feel makes it a true gem of St. Catharines.

At McGarr Realty, we know a lot about the history of Old Glenridge and love to showcase its homes. The area reflects a timeless era of home design. Walking the streets, you’ll find stately Tudor-style homes, immaculate two-story war-time houses, and quaint bungalows filled with character. The sidewalks are lined with mature trees, making a simple walk around the block an enjoyable experience.

Purchasing property in the Old Glenridge area is a smart real estate investment because of its proximity to many attractions. The neighbourhood is located in the heart of St. Catharines, which makes it convenient for enjoying the best of what the city has to offer.

Surrounding the east part of the neighbourhood is the legendary St. Catharines Golf and Country Club - a pillar of the community for over 100 years. The private, 18-hole golf course was built in 1910 under the design of the golf course architect Stanley Thompson and maintains the natural surroundings of the area. Its more recent developments include a curling facility as well as a fitness centre.

Old Glenridge is a great place for both students and lifelong learners. You can be at Brock University within a few minutes to take advantage of its expansive library or public lecture series.

The neighbourhood is also home to Burgoyne Woods, the largest park in the city. Situated in the east end of the neighbourhood, the area reflects the active lifestyle of its residents, who regularly use the park’s trails, tennis courts, and leash-free dog park. Scenic hiking trails can be found at the Twelve Mile Trail that follows along the creek.

Living in Old Glenridge makes shopping and dining convenient, too. The Outlet Collection is just a quick drive through town and is the Niagara region’s biggest shopping destination. And the newly revitalized downtown of St. Catharines is only a short walk away, where you can enjoy dinner at your favourite local restaurant, followed by a concert at the Meridian Centre.

Although many things have changed around Old Glenridge, the community continues to value the history of the area. Most recently the historic Glen Ridge school located on South Drive is being redesigned to house condominiums and townhouses. Despite being one of the newer developments in the neighbourhood, it will maintain a design that complements the original school building.

With its beautiful history, Old Glenridge is home to a vibrant community that you can’t help but fall in love with.
