Family Day weekend is almost here and there are lots of fun things to do in Niagara!

February may be a chilly month but there is still tons of fun to be had with your loved ones in St. Catharines and the Niagara region. Besides going for a real estate drive (buckle up kids, we’re heading to the Niagara Parkway!), our region boasts many activities that are sure to please the whole family!

If your family bonds over the love of hockey (and who doesn’t enjoy a good hockey game?), then treat the kids to a unique skating day that will give you the official status as the “cool” parent. On February 17 from 1pm - 3pm, enjoy free public skating with a twist by meeting the players from the Niagara Ice Dogs! The kids can also meet the Ice Dogs’ mascot Bones and Parks Canada’s beaver mascot Parka!

The free event takes place at the Fort George National Historic Site in Niagara-on-the-Lake at the new Parks Canada skating rink - the only one of its kind! And when you’re finished your afternoon of fun, you can take that beautiful drive down the Niagara Parkway to scope out some real estate.

Another great option to keep the kids active is to pull out those sleds and head to the hills! We’re lucky to have many great parks throughout the Niagara region where you can make the most of the winter season. Some of our favourite places are FH Leslie Park in Niagara Falls with their tot-friendly slopes and the Welland Canal Lock 7 hill in Thorold that has slopes that are great for older kids.

Our McGarr Realty Team also recommends Burgoyne Woods Park located in the historic Old Glenridge neighbourhood of St. Catharines. The park is dog-friendly and contains walking trails for the little explorers of your family. The downtown is just a short drive away where you can all warm up with a hot chocolate from one of the nearby cafes.

And if the weather isn’t cooperating for your outdoor plans, we’ve got you “covered” for indoor fun, too! Our team suggests visiting the St. Catharines Gravity Gym, where your family can take a crack at bouldering. The gym offers 5,000 square feet of walls where you can physically challenge yourselves with rock climbing and have fun while doing it!

No matter what your family’s interests are, you can all find something in this amazing Niagara region we call home!
