Pretty soon, school will be out for summer.

Families with children who are looking at moving schools and houses, often plan to do so just before the end of June, or shortly thereafter – to make the transition from one school to another a little easier for youngsters.

This gives children the summer to make a few friends, attend community activities, and get to know their surroundings.

Our McGarr Realty team of experts knows how important a smooth transition is – we've done it ourselves and we can help!

If our client’s wish list includes a home close to a school, our McGarr Realty team of experts tries to match their needs to neighbourhoods that fit the bill.

If they aren’t certain about the community in which to search for a new home, we first address the schooling issue. Sometimes, that helps decide other items on the client’s wish list.

One of the things we suggest is for families to meet with a representative of their chosen school board: DSBN or NCDSB. Often, a liaison person will escort the family on tours of a few schools, to help them better decide which community neighbourhood they want to call home.

We can take it from there, because with the client’s wish list in hand, we are half-way to finding them the perfect home match.

But there’s a lot of work ahead, both for the family and for our McGarr team. While the family is packing everything up, we will be constantly searching, booking viewings and attending REALTOR® open houses, attempting to match a home for sale to our client’s needs.

How exciting this time is! There is nothing like the promise of a fresh start and a new place to call home! There is also nothing like the certainty your chosen Niagara real estate professional will help you find it!

Our McGarr Realty team will do its best to help you sort out all the details regarding your purchase or sale and move. There is one thing we know for sure: moving schools by the end of June, or shortly thereafter, will give your child a chance to visit their new school before it closes for summer break; you may also get a chance to meet the principal and other administrators.

Some schools have parent councils that offer new families neighbourhood tours, welcoming meetings and a chance to get together with other families.

It’s worth asking at your new school to find out if there is a way to introduce your child to some of his or her new classmates in summertime places, such as during visits to a local park or swimming pool.

For families moving to accommodate work needs, or with older students seeking post-secondary education, Niagara offers both Brock University and Niagara College. Most Niagara communities also offer transit options that carry students to either institution.

Some families even purchase investment properties with a granny flat attached, or a basement apartment in communities close to post-secondary options. Renting to a student or a couple of students can also go a long way toward paying down the mortgage.

Moving in during the summer gives your family some time to perfect your living arrangements and find new student tenants before the Labour Day weekend rolls around.

No matter your schooling needs, our McGarr Realty team has your back when it comes to finding the perfect Niagara or St. Catharines real estate option.
